Yoga

Why Yoga?

Yoga compliments nutritional therapy on many levels. When incorporated in your daily lifestyle, it is a powerful tool to assist you in managing energy, mood and mindset. It is so much more than just a physical activity!

The physical asana practice is a gateway drug (ha!) to the deeper practices of pranayama and meditation that create space and clarity in all aspects of our lives.

In a world where busy has been glorified and we are in sympathetic nervous system dominance, yoga allows you to slow down and tune into your own innate wisdom, to reconnect and reclaim your Wild Heart. We cannot digest our food nor our life experiences, if we cannot create space, slow down and listen.

Mindful, smart movement of your BODY connects you with your BREATH (another underrated super power!) and breath connects you powerfully to your MIND. The coherence of these systems brings calm, peace and clarity to your being and you can approach life from a space of equanimity.

I work with three main yoga practices, traditional hatha, yin yoga and flow yoga.

Traditional Hatha yoga is a sarvangha (complete) practice that includes asana, pranayama and meditation. It delves deeply into the science of yoga on all levels, mind, body and spirit and is truly transformative. It respects the lineage and tradition of yoga by stepping away from modern exercise movement that has diluted the ancient practice of yoga and respects yoga. Meditation (and samadhi) are the ultimate goals!

Yin Yoga is the marriage of yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Yin Yoga is a deeply meditative style of yoga where you hold floor based asana for longer periods of time, working deeply with the fascia system in your body to unlock greater flexibility of body and mind. A deeply restorative tool to slow your system down and activate the rest and digest elements of the parasympathetic nervous system.

Flow Yoga is a faster paced, asana based functional movement practice, with elements of mindfulness and breath. This is a great launching off point (and where I started!), to learn the fundamentals before moving into the deeper side of yoga offered in a traditional Hatha practice. I am also trained via Yoga Medicine to look at the body from a functional and therapeutic perspective and weave that knowledge into my classes.

Whichever style you prefer, a dedicated practice will give you tools to manage any situation that life throws your way with grace and dignity. You are the ocean, you can handle the waves!

Personal Sadhana Practice

Sadhana: "methodical discipline to attain desired knowledge or goal".

Build your strength, determination, and willpower by committing to a daily yoga practice. Utilising the science of yoga, and the traditional hatha framework, we work together to design a personal practice to suit your needs and to balance your energy.  From there, I am available as support throughout the journey.

Typically practised for 40 days or 108, a sadhana journey will help you meet yourself at a much deeper level, build self-discipline and embed daily practices into your life. Embrace your Shakti (power!) and start one today!

Reach out to design the practice that's is right for you.

My Yoga Journey

My first serious exploration of a yoga sadhana was a 40 day challenge and it literally changed the course of my life. The biggest gift yoga gave me at that time, was a deep appreciation of what it meant to be present in my life. That presence was tested beyond anything I could have envisaged when I lost my beloved Dad to suicide just a month after graduating from my teacher training.

Yoga also enabled me to reconnect my body and mind after years of separation and has been pivotal in my healing and growth. Given my personal journey, I have a special interest in the  connection between the body and trauma, and the ability of yoga to be a tool in transmuting those energies and I have been also studying MindBody Therapy which I love to intertwine into my classes, workshops and events.

The past few years has seen a shift in my personal yoga practice as I have discovered and started to study and train in traditional Hatha yoga, completing a second 200hr training under the tutelage of Octavio Salvado (the Practice Bali) and master trainings with Yogarupa Rod Stryker founder of ParaYoga.

I am currently studying for 500hr recognition with Tiffany Cruikshank of YogaMedicine. Yoga Medicine aim to 'Blend modern science with traditional wisdom to provide teachers and students with the tools to create individualized therapeutic yoga practices that support all aspects of health and wellness'. These trainings (as detailed below) have taken my practice and ability to support my students to another level!
